Description

Description

Sofvasc-V (5/160mg) combines amlodipine 5mg with a higher 160mg dose of valsartan, used for blood pressure that requires stronger combination therapy than the 5/80mg strength provides. As with the lower-strength version, amlodipine relaxes blood vessels while valsartan blocks a hormone responsible for vessel narrowing, and the higher valsartan dose here is typically used when blood pressure remains above target on the standard combination dose.

Ingredients

Each tablet contains Amlodipine 5mg and Valsartan 160mg as active ingredients, along with standard tablet excipients such as microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, and magnesium stearate. Formulation details can vary slightly by batch; check the printed leaflet for a full list or ask your pharmacist.

Dosage Form

Supplied as an oral tablet, packaged in simple blister strips. Each pack contains 14 tablets, generally supporting a two-week supply at the standard once-daily dosing schedule.

Uses

Used for managing high blood pressure in patients who need a stronger combined dose than the 5/80mg strength offers. This is typically prescribed after a doctor reviews blood pressure readings on the lower combination dose and determines a higher valsartan component is needed for adequate control. Patients moved to this higher-valsartan combination are typically those who showed a partial response to the 5/80mg strength. Your doctor will usually reassess blood pressure readings a few weeks after any dose change to confirm the new strength is working as intended.

How to use

Take one tablet by mouth once daily, at a consistent time, with or without food. Swallow whole with water rather than crushing or chewing. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered unless close to the next scheduled dose, in which case skip the missed one. Continue treatment consistently as directed, even without noticeable symptoms.

Side Effects

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and ankle or foot swelling. Some patients notice symptoms of low blood pressure, particularly when rising from sitting or lying down. Elevated potassium levels can occur and may be monitored periodically through blood tests. Facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or severe dizziness are signs of a serious reaction requiring immediate medical care. As with the lower-strength combination, periodic kidney function and potassium monitoring is generally recommended, particularly if you are also taking other medicines that affect potassium levels, such as certain diuretics or supplements.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to potential harm to the developing baby associated with this drug class. Also generally not recommended during breastfeeding. Pregnant, planning a pregnancy, or breastfeeding patients should discuss alternative treatment options with their doctor as soon as possible.

Storage Instructions

Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. Keep in original blister packaging until use, and store securely out of reach of children. Discard tablets after the printed expiry date. If you are travelling, keep tablets in your carry-on luggage rather than checked baggage to avoid temperature extremes, and always carry enough medicine to cover your full trip plus a few extra days in case of delays.

Disclaimer

Always use this medicine strictly according to your doctor’s instructions and prescribed dosage.
