Man checking his blood sugar with a glucometer

Medically reviewed by Arhum Nadeem, Pharm-D (8 years’ experience as a pharmacist) · Last reviewed: 17 October 2026

The sugar test machine price in Pakistan ranges from about Rs 1,190 to Rs 4,300 for a glucometer in October 2026. Budget meters such as CC Advance and Certeza GL-110 start around Rs 1,200 to Rs 1,900, while Accu-Chek models cost Rs 3,470 to Rs 4,280. The meter is the smaller cost: test strips cost Rs 28 to Rs 57 each, so if you test twice a day, choose the meter by its strip price, not its box price.

Key points

  • Cheapest meter to buy: CC Advance TD-4116, about Rs 1,190.
  • Cheapest to run: On Call Plus, about Rs 28 per strip, roughly half the cost of some premium strips.
  • Strips only work with their own meter. Check that the strips are easy to find before you choose a meter.
  • Look for “ISO 15197:2013” on the box. It means the meter met the international accuracy standard.
  • Normal fasting sugar is below 100 mg/dL. Most people with diabetes aim for 80–130 mg/dL before meals.

The real cost: strips, not the machine

Most buyers compare only the meter price. That is the mistake most “price list” pages lead you into. If you test twice a day, you use about 730 strips a year:

MeterMeter + 1 year of strips (2 tests a day)
On Call PlusAbout Rs 23,400
Accu-Chek ActiveAbout Rs 31,300
CC Advance TD-4116About Rs 30,300
Accu-Chek PerformaAbout Rs 42,400

If you only check your sugar once or twice a week, the strip cost matters less and an easy-to-use meter is the better choice. Lancets add a little more: Life Care lancets cost about Rs 3.80 each and Accu-Chek Softclix lancets about Rs 5.75.

How to choose the right sugar machine

  1. How often will you test? Several times a day (insulin users): choose the lowest strip cost. A few times a week: choose the easiest meter.
  2. Accuracy standard: look for ISO 15197:2013 on the box or leaflet. Meters meeting it must read within ±15 mg/dL (below 100 mg/dL) or ±15% (at 100 mg/dL and above) for at least 95% of results.
  3. Strip availability: a cheap meter is useless if its strips are hard to find. Accu-Chek, On Call and Certeza strips are widely stocked in Pakistan.
  4. Units: Pakistani doctors use mg/dL. Make sure the meter shows mg/dL, not mmol/L.
  5. Ease of use: for older parents, pick a large screen, simple buttons and strips that are easy to handle.
  6. Memory: a meter that stores readings with date and time makes doctor visits easier.

Normal blood sugar levels (mg/dL)

TestNormal (no diabetes)Usual target with diabetes*
Fasting / before mealsBelow 10080–130
1–2 hours after a mealBelow 140Below 180
Low sugar (hypoglycaemia)Below 70: take fast-acting sugar and recheck in 15 minutes

*Targets for most non-pregnant adults, from the American Diabetes Association. Your doctor may set different targets for you, especially in pregnancy, older age or for children. A fasting reading of 126 mg/dL or more on a lab test can mean diabetes; a home meter cannot diagnose it. If you’re worried, read Type 2 Diabetes: The First Signs People Miss.

How to test your sugar correctly

  1. Wash your hands with soap and warm water and dry them. Sugar from food on your fingers gives falsely high readings.
  2. Insert a new strip, then prick the side of your fingertip with a fresh lancet. It hurts less than the pad.
  3. Touch the drop to the edge of the strip and wait for the result.
  4. Write the reading down with the time and whether it was before or after a meal, or use the meter’s memory.

Common errors: expired strips, strips left in heat or humidity (keep the lid closed and don’t store them in the car), squeezing the finger hard, and sharing lancets. Never share a lancet or lancing device, even within a family.

Frequently asked questions

Which sugar test machine is best in Pakistan?

For most families, Accu-Chek Active or On Call Plus offer the best balance of reliability and strip cost. Choose Accu-Chek Instant if ease of use matters most, and On Call Plus if you test several times a day.

What is the price of an Accu-Chek machine in Pakistan?

At Divine Medicines in October 2026, Accu-Chek Instant costs about Rs 3,470, Accu-Chek Active about Rs 4,040 and Accu-Chek Performa about Rs 4,280.

Can I use any strips with my glucometer?

No. Each meter only works with its own brand and model of strips. Accu-Chek Active strips won’t work in a Performa or Instant meter.

How accurate are home sugar machines?

Meters that meet ISO 15197:2013 read within about 15% of a lab result for most readings. That is accurate enough for daily control, but not for diagnosing diabetes.

Why are my glucometer readings different from the lab?

Lab tests use blood plasma from a vein, while meters use a finger-prick drop, so small differences are normal. Big differences can come from dirty fingers, expired strips or wrong storage.

How often should I check my sugar?

It depends on your treatment. People on insulin often test several times a day, while people on tablets may test a few times a week. Follow your doctor’s plan.
