Uses

Clexane 8000IU/0.4ml is used for:

• Reducing the risk of blood clots (deep vein thrombosis) after surgery or during illness with reduced mobility
• Blood clots in the legs (DVT) or lungs (pulmonary embolism)
• Unstable angina and heart attack, with other medicines
• Stopping clotting in the dialysis machine

Dosage

The dose depends on the reason and body weight. Clot risk reduction: commonly 4,000 IU (40 mg) once daily. Existing clots: commonly 100 IU/kg (1 mg/kg) twice daily or 150 IU/kg once daily. Kidney problems need lower doses.

How to Use

Injected under the skin of the stomach area, alternating sides. Do not expel the air bubble from the pre-filled syringe. Pinch a fold of skin, insert the needle straight in, inject slowly and do not rub the site afterwards. Your nurse will show you how.

Missed Dose

Inject it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed one. Never inject a double dose.

Overdose

Too much can cause bleeding. Seek medical help immediately; the doctor may give protamine.

• Active major bleeding or a high bleeding risk
• Previous low platelets caused by heparin (HIT)
• Recent bleeding in the brain
