Uses

Xarelto 10mg is used for:

• Reducing the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation not caused by valve disease
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and reducing the risk of them coming back
• Reducing the risk of blood clots after hip or knee replacement surgery

Dosage

Atrial fibrillation: 20 mg once daily with the evening meal (15 mg in kidney impairment). DVT/PE: 15 mg twice daily for 21 days, then 20 mg once daily. Long-term after 6 months: 10 mg or 20 mg once daily. Heart disease with aspirin: 2.5 mg twice daily.

How to Use

Swallow the tablet with water. Take the 15 mg and 20 mg tablets with food, as food is needed for absorption. The 2.5 mg and 10 mg tablets can be taken without food.

Missed Dose

For once-daily doses, take it as soon as you remember the same day. Do not take two doses in one day.

Overdose

An overdose increases the risk of bleeding. Seek emergency medical help immediately.

When Not to Use

• Active significant bleeding
• Liver disease with bleeding risk
• Artificial heart valves
• Taking another anticoagulant at the same time (except when switching)
• Allergy to rivaroxaban

Common side effects may include:

• Bruising

• Blood in urine
• Heavy periods
• Nausea
• Anaemia
